The journey to Theth is an adventure itself. From Shkodra, a scenic 3-4 hour drive takes you through dramatic mountain scenery. The road has improved significantly in recent years, though it's still winding and requires careful driving.
Top Attractions
The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër)
A stunning natural spring with incredibly blue, crystal-clear water. The hike from Theth takes about 2 hours round trip and is moderately challenging. Swimming in the icy water is a refreshing experience!
Grunas Waterfall
A 30-meter waterfall surrounded by dramatic cliffs. The hike is relatively easy and takes about 1 hour from the village center. The spray creates rainbows on sunny days.
The Lock-in Tower
This historic tower was used to protect families during blood feuds. Today, it serves as a museum offering insight into Albania's traditional Kanun law and the history of the region.
The Old Church
The white church in the center of Theth, with the mountains as its backdrop, is one of the most photographed spots in Albania. Visit early morning for the best light.
Hiking the Peaks of the Balkans
Theth is a key stop on the famous Peaks of the Balkans trail, a 192km circular route through Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo. Even if you're not doing the full trail, day hikes from Theth offer incredible mountain views.
